WHIRL started in a hotel room in Mexico City. Our founder Nina was traveling for work, on a GLP-1, and trying to hit 120g of protein a day on the road. The hotel mini-fridge had a banana. Her bag had a protein scoop. She had no way to actually combine them.
She'd already tried three portable blenders. One died after a week. One leaked into her laptop bag. One technically worked but couldn't crush an ice cube to save its life. So she went home, built a list of what a real portable blender needed to do, and started reaching out to manufacturers.
Most portable blenders are sold as novelty gifts. We think they should be daily-driver kitchen tools that happen to fit in a bag. The bar is: can it actually replace your countertop blender for the things you make most? For 90% of customers, the answer turns out to be yes.
We benchmarked five $200+ countertop blenders, took the blade geometry that performed best on ice, and worked with a small-batch motor manufacturer to scale a 175W brushless motor that could spin those blades at 22,000 RPM. The cup is BPA-free Tritan. The lid uses a double-gasket seal we borrowed from sports water bottles.
It took 11 prototypes. The current version weighs less than a paperback and still crushes ice.
16,300+ customers, a 4.8-star average, and a steady stream of texts from friends asking where to get one. We ship from Austin, fold every shipping carton ourselves the first year (not anymore), and read every product review. Welcome.
